Eunis 18 Conference

Eunis 2018 Conference

I’ve been to Eunis conference’s a number of times across Europe over the past years, but this was the first time it had been quite so close to the UK. Paris were the host this year, so it made sense to go and I also submitted a paper which was accepted, the paper addressed (I hope) approaches to support Digital Pedagogies.

The host institution was the UMPC Sorbonne, the theme of the conference for was Coming of Age in a Digital World.

One of my favourite things about the Eunis conference is the overall openness and friendliness and this conference was no different. The size & scale of the conference is quite small (about 500?) attendees.

I attended 31 Sessions (I liked the idea of short 30 min
presentations)

My highlights
All presentations were in English and the keynotes translated to French.
Digital Transformations, Andrew Cormack from Jisc.
NGDLE,  Jack Suess, University of Baltimore.
Active Learning Spaces, Gaberail Hansen.
Learning Analytics, Dragan Gasevic.
Limitations of Machine Learning, Jean Ganasciu, Sorbonne.
Quantum Computing, Bernard Ourghalion, Microsoft.
Student Dashboard, Eunice Simmonds, Nottingham Trent University.

Observations
Well organised.
Friendly, open and inclusive.
Making progress in some areas with gender balance.
Paris pricey for accommodation so limited some in attending.
Lack of BAME diversity.
Missed not having a Eunis organised conference meal.
